A World Cup Party

To celebrate England's first match in the World Cup and my Dad's birthday, we decided to throw a football bonanza in the garden. We had bunting, flags, England cups, plates and of course lots of food and booze!

The birthday boy had lots of lovely gifts to unwrap...

...including an authentic map of Gibraltar and an old Rolling Stones poster. We bought him a candy pink and white striped shirt, navy shorts and a beaten metal Jack Daniels sign (plus a bottle from Tomasz's sister!)

He gave us all a preview of his new outfit. Looking good Pa!

Perhaps not so happy being made to wear our England ears...

We served some red and white food to mark the occasion - Caprese salad with fresh basil, and tomatoes steeped in garlic and olive oil.

It's tradition in our family to make Dad an amazing cake called "Black Forest Gateaux". A delicious combination of chocolate sponge, whipped cream and black cherries in syrup. Yum! Kate brought over the sponge and went about whipping, dolloping and piping her creation.

Some grated chocolate and a few candles and we were ready for the big reveal.

We partied until late and tried not to be too upset that England didn't win the game. Bring on the next match!
