Toots & The Maytals

Last week my friend Lucy emailed me squealing with excitement saying that The Toots & The Maytals were playing live at the O2 Indigo on Friday, so we bought tickets and headed to watch the legendary band play. They came on at 10pm so we had time to grab a Nando's first (always important!)
For those of you who aren't familiar, The Toots are an amazing Jamaican ska and reggae group who sang "54-46 (That's My Number)" and Monkey Man (I don't know all their tracks, but I do love them enough to dance around like a loony when they play). They formed in the 60's so they've got the sound that I grew up listening to, and The Toots were actually the band which was on the record player when my Mum and Dad first met...ahhh.
The beverage choice of the night was something delish called Gin & Ting (Ting being a sweet grapefruit soda popular in the Caribbean, kind of like Lilt).

The whole event has been put on to celebrate 50 years of Jamaican independence - and given Bolt's performance on Sunday (plus I'm sure many more fine Jamaican athletes) it's been a pretty good year for them! It must be the Ting...
"Junior Toots" was supporting his ol' pop, and they were great too. You can find out a bit more about the band if it sounds like it would be up your street - http://www.tootsandthemaytals.com/

There was an after party with a lot of funky moves where we drank more Gin & Ting and rolled on home for a good sleep.
